Details
Digital Delirium is an interactive multiplayer game designed for the Overkill Festival in Enschede - an annual event celebrating the intersection of modern art, gaming, and technology. Developed in Unity and projected as a large-scale wall installation, the game explores the festival's yearly theme: “Digital Swamp.”
Problem
The Overkill Festival organizers were looking for a new, interactive exhibit to interpret the 2023 theme Digital Swamp in an engaging and playful way. The challenge was to develop something visually striking, multiplayer, and easy to pick up, while also leaving room for deeper reflection on digital decay, overload, and connections.
Requirements
Must reflect the Digital Swamp theme through visuals and interaction
User friedly design
Designed for a public space
Easy to onboard with no instructions needed
Developed and delivered in time for the festival installation
My Contributions
As a designer on the team, I contributed to both the creative and organizational aspects of the project:
Designed the game mechanics and overall player experience
Created the UI elements for in-game interaction and feedback
Developed the level layout and visual language to reflect the theme
Managed the project using Trello:
Built the project roadmap
Assigned and tracked tasks across the team
Facilitated smooth collaboration between team members
Results
The final product was a multiplayer survival game, where players competed to survive an oncoming “data erasure wave.” Visitors could join the game instantly and play in groups, making it highly accessible and socially engaging.
The game received positive feedback from players and organizers and was handed off to the festival for future use in upcoming events or exhibitions.
